Changes in life...
As the Baby Boom generation ages, articles, books, medical advancements, and research abound. We "Boomers" have been the focal point of life... our whole life. We learned from childhood that it's all about us. So, it's no wonder that vast investments of money, research and effort are being spent on us.
I am beginning to learn with age comes a resistance to change. We are taught certain habits are bad, but we know people who brag that those very habits allowed them to reach 100 years in life - we refuse to change. We become comfortable with the certainty of routine; we know what to expect. Yet experience teaches that the only certainty is nothing is certain.
It seems human nature quickly makes an idol of life's advancement. God used a brass snake to heal His children only to have them begin to worship the snake more than the Creator - Nehushtan! The 10 Commandments quickly became a cumbersome book of laws in need of an Editor - love God supremely and others as yourself. Routine, history, and tradition may lead to comfort but what is needed are a few brave souls to step out and do it different.
A futurist once told me, change always comes from the fringe. It's the outsider, the one not trapped by habit and tradition who produces change. People may resist but time reveals the value of the change agent. However, after the declaration of Nehushtan and soon after the simplified laws are delivered life goes on and a new comfort zone has just been established.
The satirist quipped, "Everyone needs change in life or our world will begin smelling like a dirty diaper." Is your world smelling fresh or dirty? Don't ask the person closest to you, find someone on the fringe of your life. If they can smell from the edge, perhaps you need a change.
